As research fields, philosophy and anthropology operate with the notions of culture, subculture, and counterculture, quite differently, even ambiguously, defined by some authors. This article analyzes trending approaches regarding subculture, subculture typologies, the functions of the subculture, elements of the subculture. The main question addressed by the current research is about the necessary conditions for the emergence of a subculture are. The studies consulted by now show that a prerequisite for the emergence of a subculture would be a community looking for a particular solution to common problems. Another necessary condition would be that each social group, reflecting characteristics shared by its members, such as sex, age, race, ethnicity, occupation, embraces a specific behavior and set of values. Our conclusion throughout this research will be that the sufficient condition for the subculture`s existence is the acceptance of norms and shared values of a group by all its constitutive members.
